The story behind After Hours Books.

How I got here

I spent nearly eight years living, studying and working in the US. I graduated from Trinity College in Connecticut with a degree in Quantitative Economics and Econometrics, then started my career in Boston doing the accounting for a group of interior design firms. That's where I learned to run the books for several small businesses at once.

Then I became Financial Controller at Clutch Coffee Bar, a coffee chain with 15+ locations that was later acquired by Dutch Bros. I ran the monthly close, built the P&Ls for each location and handled payroll across several states. I also prepared the reporting packages for investors and set up the books for new stores as the chain grew.

Most recently I worked in finance at Copyright Capital, a media fintech startup, where I handled the close for entities in several countries and built automated reporting.

Across those jobs I kept seeing the same problem. Once a business grows past a certain point, a basic bookkeeper isn’t enough. Each new location or entity adds more bank accounts, more payroll and more money moving between companies, and without the right systems the books can’t keep up. The books fall behind, and the owner can’t tell what’s really going on financially. But hiring a full-time controller is usually too early and too expensive.

I started After Hours Books to do that work, mostly for food and beverage brands with multiple locations.
